Sen. Carper Hopes to Include SO2, NOx, Mercury in Climate Change Bill

Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., said he hoped to include his legislation to require cuts in SO2, NOx and mercury emissions in the Senate climate change bill, Environment and Energy Daily reported. Carper was quoted as saying: "I haven't given up" on inserting the bill through the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Public Service Enterprise Group Chairman, President and CEO Ralph Izzo said he hoped the Carper bill will be included and provide "an essential piece of clarity." Izzo told Carper at a hearing: "We'd love to see it if you could go through with that." NRG Energy CEO David Crane cautioned that it could slow down work on the climate bill, while Carper noted that he planned to advance his proposal on its own if it were not incorporated in the larger bill.
