Boxer Releases Chairman's Mark of Climate Change Bill

On Friday, Sens. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and John Kerry, D-Mass., released a more detailed version of their proposed climate change legislation that included new money for carbon capture and sequestration research, low-carbon transportation projects, help to rural areas, and a better deal for agriculture and forestry, the New York Times reported.

Boxer was quoted as saying: "We've reached another milestone as we move to a clean energy future, creating millions of jobs and protecting our children from dangerous pollution."

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which Boxer chairs, will bring up its version of legislation to cut GHG emissions by 20-percent below that of 2005 levels by 2020 at a public hearing this week, the Dow Jones Newswires reported. The proposed bill, which is supposed to be similar to that of the legislation passed by the House, is to include new provisions that help consumers and some select industries.
