Democrats Now Hope to Have Climate Bill on Senate Floor in Spring

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said Democrats were now hoping to have a climate change bill on the Senate floor in spring 2010 after first working on health care and financial reform legislation, Politico reported. Kerry said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., had promised him he would take up the bill soon and report it "back to us" in early 2010. He declined to say that the Senate would manage to produce outlines of the legislation in time for the Copenhagen talks next month, Reuters reported.

Kerry was quoted as saying of the bill's response to the sluggish economy: "If you want to do a jobs bill this is the bill to do. I would argue that with the president very very forcefully."
