EEI President Tom Kuhn reiterated on Wednesday the electric industry's continuing support for comprehensive climate change legislation, according to ClimateWire.
Making the opening address for the United States Energy Association's 6th Annual State of the Energy Industry Forum in Washington, Kuhn said "legislation is a lot better way to go" for regulating greenhouse gas emissions "than plant-by-plant regulation," the newsletter wrote.
Kuhn said passage of such a bill was not out of the question even during an election year with what he called "the widest political divide I've seen in a long time."
John Shelk, president and CEO of the Electric Power Supply Association, said getting a bill passed sooner than later is critical. "I would emphasize the importance of resolving this," Shelk was quoted as saying. "We need to put a price on carbon and provide the tools we need for broader competition."
