New International Climate Negotiations Scheduled for April

U.N. climate chief Yvo de Boer has announced an extra round of formal negotiations on an international climate change treaty for Bonn, Germany, April 9-11, the Associated Press reported. Dow Jones Newswires quoted de Boer as saying: "The decision to intensify the negotiating schedule underlines the commitment by governments to move the negotiations forward towards success" at the next international climate summit set for Nov. 29-Dec. 10 in Cancun, Mexico.

Senior officials from 194 nations are expected to attend the April session, according to Reuters, which quoted Danish Climate and Energy Minister Lykke Friis as saying: "The negotiations are picking up speed again after Copenhagen." More talks between senior officials are scheduled in Bonn for May 31 to June 1.
