EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson will testify tomorrow before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on the Interior and the Environment on plans to increase by $43 million allocated to her agency to fund programs to limit GHG emissions, Environment and Energy Daily reported. Subcommittee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., expressed her support for the funding, but Jackson was expected to encounter aggressive questioning from subcommittee Republicans.
Five of the Republicans backed the proposal by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, to veto EPA's endangerment finding for GHG emissions. Subcommittee members Ben Nelson, D-Neb., and Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., also criticized potential EPA regulation. Nonetheless, Jackson recently stated that acting to cut emissions "will allow the agency to improve health, drive technology and innovation, and protect the environment; all without placing an undue burden on the nation's economy."
