The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee is expected to take up amendments to the Senate's energy and climate bill (S. 1462), starting today, Environment and Energy Daily reported. Bill Wicker, spokesman for Senate Energy Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., was quoted as saying: "That bill was reported out last June. Since then good, bipartisan energy-themed legislation has developed that would be good to put in the bill."
Wrote the newsletter: "No list of potential amendments has been released by the committee, but possibilities include energy efficiency on Indian reservations and 'enhanced energy efficiency' legislation. Some of the amendments are bills that have been introduced since the bill passed in June, others were being discussed before the committee vote last year but were not ready. Proposals by Senate Indian Affairs Chairman Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Vice Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) on tribal energy have sought to ensure tribes benefit from home weatherization programs offered through the Energy Department and tweak policies so that states' funds for energy efficiency more easily find their way onto the reservation."
