1,200 State Legislators Urge Passage of GHG Emissions Limits

The Coalition of Legislators for Energy Action Now sent a letter signed by 1,198 Democratic and Republican state legislators representing 49 states urging Congress and President Obama to pass a new federal limit on GHG emissions, E&E News PM reported. The legislators wrote: "The clean energy and climate challenge is America's new space race. The United States has never backed down from a challenge on this scale, and we urge you to again place our country at the forefront of innovation and prosperity."

Among the signatories were Montana House Speaker Bob Bergren, Maine Senate Majority (Democratic) Leader Philip Bartlett and Hawaii House Assistant Majority (Republican) Leader Cynthia Thielen. The letter's lead author, Minnesota State Rep. Jeremy Kalin, a Democrat, told the newsletter that federal action would build off efforts driven to date at the state level. "It's time for Congress to pick up the torch and lead America into the 21st-century clean energy economy," he said.
