A Pew Research Center poll of U.S. residents found 28 percent believed climate change was a top priority for the country, the Examiner reported. The figure represented a 10-percent drop from 2007. The weak support for a climate change bill was seen as pointing to a lack of movement on GHG emissions limits in 2010 following struggles at the Copenhagen talks in December.
The poll showed a contrast with the 44 percent of respondents giving priority to environmental concerns. These respondents were seen as showing a de-linking of climate change and environmental support in the U.S. Reuters reported that the number of respondents giving priority to energy issues fell from 60 percent in 2009 to 49 percent this year.
