Idaho State House Goes on Record Opposing Federal Cap-and-Trade

The Idaho State House has approved legislation that would put the state on record opposing GHG cap-and-trade legislation working its way through Congress. The measure (House Joint Memorial 11) is now going before the Idaho State Senate, Capital Press reported. Idaho State Rep. Eric Anderson, R-Priest Lake, the bill's sponsor, said cap-and-trade would create a derivatives market that will "just make a lot of money for Wall Street."

Anderson added that the federal legislation was "nothing but a tax with no benefits." He was quoted as saying: "If the discussion is about carbon and Congress is concerned about greenhouse gases, let's find a solution and put money on the ground to correct those problems." Anderson claims cap-and-trade would hurt the economy while failing "to accomplish environmental goals because climate models and environmental groups show that reductions would have little or no detectable impact on global average temperatures."
